upporting Us

Donations are essential for Hospice to provide services to the residents of Davis and Wapello Counties. Medicare, Medicaid, and Private Insurance reimbursement cover approximately 86% of our expenses. The remaining 14% comes from donations, memorials, and honorariums.

"Friends of Hospice" is a fundraising program we began in September 2000. Our goal is to acquire 2000 friends who wish to donate to Hospice each year. "Friends of Hospice" gifts are acknowledged with a thank you card and a Hospice magnet. In addition, "Friends of Hospice" are acknowledged in our annual newsletter and Annual Report.

"Circle of Friends" was added in December 2001 for gifts of $250 or more. Donations are acknowledged with a personal letter from the Executive Director and a Hospice magnet. "Circle of Friends" donors are acknowledged in our annual newsletter, and in the Annual Report.

Memorial Gifts are donated in memory of a loved one. Families often specify "memorials to Hospice in lieu of flowers." Hospice also receives memorial gifts for loved ones who were never in our program. In our annual newsletter and Annual Report, we acknowledge "Family and Friends Remembered with Love by Memorials to Hospice." Memorial gifts are acknowledged with a letter to the family member(s) who designated Hospice for the memorial. A list of donors is sent to the family members approximately six weeks following the death of the loved one.

Honorariums are in honor of a living family member, friend, or Hospice employee. This gift is a thoughtful way to observe a special occasion such as a birthday, anniversary, holiday, or a special recognition.

Honor a Staff Member - often patients and families went to recognize a staff member's caregiving with a personal gift. Hospice's policy states that employees may not accept gifts with a value greater than $25.00. If a family member would like to recognize a Hospice staff member, they may give a donation "in recognition" of the staff member. This donation will help further the mission of Hospice as well as giving the employee special recognition. Staff members honored with a donation will be recognized in our annual newsletter and Annual Report.

General Donations are given to Hospice because someone has heard about and/or observed the work that we do in the community to help patients and families in their time of need. General donations are acknowledged with a thank you note or personal letter from the Executive Director and a Hospice magnet.

In-Kind Donations- Local businesses give non-monetary donations to Hospice. For example, Ottumwa Regional Health Center donates rent and utilities for the Hospice House and Hospice offices at 312 E. Alta Vista Ave. We are grateful to ORHC for their generous donation.

Planned Gifts provide Hospice needed long-term support. Planned gifts include Bequests, Life Insurance, and Securities. Please contact Hospice. for further information.

Gifts of Time - In addition to supporting us financially, many people enjoy investing their time, talent, and expertise as Hospice Volunteers. For more information, Contact the Hospice office at (641) 682-0684

United Way provides 50% of the cost for Hospice Bereavement services.

Hospice is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization and donations to Hospice are tax deductible to the extent allowable by law.
